3rd Tal-Apia Cookfest celebrates Talisay’s culinary tradition & community spirit

The highly anticipated 3rd Tal-Apia Cookfest 2025, proudly sponsored by Feedmix Specialist, Inc. and hosted by Jed Cabela, was held at the Talisay Gymnasium on February 5.





The competition brought together talented home cooks, aspiring chefs, and educators from the Municipality of Talisay, including elementary to senior high school teachers, who showcased their creativity and culinary skills.

Each participant was tasked with preparing innovative dishes using four (4) tilapia provided by Feedmix Specialist, highlighting the importance of locally sourced ingredients and sustainable aquaculture.



Home Cooks and Educators Showcase Culinary Skills in Talisay


This event was designed to highlight the culinary versatility of tilapia while encouraging a sense of community among participants and showcasing the vibrant food culture of Talisay. During the competition, both professional chefs and home cooks showcased an array of innovative and delicious dishes, captivating the judges with their expertise in flavor, technique, and presentation.


The judging panel meticulously assessed each entry, focusing on elements such as flavor balance, creativity, and visual presentation, which contributed to the event's competitive atmosphere. The participants' commitment and expertise created a fun display of talent and culinary artistry.




Winners & Participants


After an exciting and intense round of cooking, the grand winners of the Tal-Apia Cookfest 2025 were Chef John Bryan Arcega from Aya, Talisay, Batangas, and his assistant chef Joshua Caringal. Their winning dish, the Bakunawa with Truffle Beurre Blanc Sauce, stood out for its sophisticated flavors and artistic presentation, earning them the championship title and a grand prize of ₱10,000.


The second-place award went to Chef Rose Ann R. Vicente from Quiling Elementary School, alongside her assistant chef Renz Ivan S. Mendoza. Their dish, Mystic Tilapia Rouleau, captivated the judges with its creative concept and rich, well-balanced flavors, securing them the ₱7,500 prize.


Taking third place was Chef Ivan Hope A. Turingan from Tumaway, Talisay, Batangas, along with his assistant chef Elizabeth Arellano. Their dish, Pinaputok na Tilapia, a flavorful and well-executed take on the classic Filipino dish, earned them a well-deserved spot on the podium and a ₱5,000 cash prize.


Beyond the top three winners, all participants were recognized for their dedication and effort. Each received a Certificate of Participation and a ₱1,500 cash incentive as a token of appreciation for their hard work and contribution to the event.
